An elderly motorist was treated and released from a Philadelphia hospital following an accident on the R5 Lansdale line at the Walnut St crossing in Hatfield Twp, Montgomery County. The incident occured shortly after 1:30pm according to the Allentown Morning Call, when Samuel Fiume, 78, of Hatfield, drove his car onto the tracks with the crossing gates down. Fiume's car was struck by the #554, which was apparently running a few minutes behind schedule. Fiume was transported to UPenn Hospital, where he was treated and released... not to mention very lucky. R5 service was suspended for two hours as Hatfield Twp police investigated.
