INTER-STATE ROUTE SAVED...

DART First State's Route 65 between Newark, Del. and Elkton, Md. will apparently stay in service for the immediate future, according to the News Journal. The Maryland Transit Administration, which oversees transit funding statewide in addition to operating transit service in the Baltimore area, had announced that it would withdraw it's $65,000 contribution to DelDOT to fund the service. Cecil County, Maryland officials, however, announced that they would contribute $10,000 towards keeping the service operating. Ridership had increased from 12 riders per day in 2000 to nearly 80 riders per day currently. Off peak service on the 65 route would probably be reduced as a result of the decreased funding from Maryland, however.
